What is Ateak Ireki?

Ateak Ireki means “open doors” in the Basque language, Euskara. The Ateak Ireki program is an opportunity for young people from the Basque diaspora in the United States to live, learn and experience real life in the Basque Country today. This three-week program is possible as Basque families, communities and cooperatives of the Goierri Valley are opening their doors in hopes of strengthening the relationships between the Basque Country and the Basque communities in the USA.

Goierri Valley

You can find Goierri in the southeastern area of Gipuzkoa, bordering Alava and Navarre. If you take the A1 highway you can pass by traditional villages and rural areas on both sides of the road.

Thanks

To the town of Goierri, to the host families and to all the organizations involved in this program.
